An Extension of Shape–Adaptive DCT (SA–DCT) Towards DC Separation and DC Correction

چکیده
In the framework of the ongoing MPEG–4 standardization phase of ISO/IEC Sikora and Makai suggested a shape–adaptive DCT algorithm (SA–DCT) for efficient and low–complexity coding of arbitrarily shaped video objects. Referring to this algorithmic approach, the objective of the underlying contribution is to emphasize a performance limitation of conventional SA–DCT definition and to propose an extended version DC–SA–DCT) which avoids this restriction in general. This modification considerably improves coding efficiency and can easily be implemented in existing SA–DCT tools.

Switching between the SA-DCT and the EI-DCT in arbitrarily shaped image coding
In object-oriented image coding applications, the use of the SA-DCT (Shape-Adaptive Discrete Cosine Transform) and of the block-based DCT schemes associated to the EI (Extension-Interpolation) padding technique have shown promising results at high and low bit rates, respectively. Both the SA-DCT and the EI padding algorithm consist of two 1D-DCT processing. Recent works have shown that their ef...
متن کاملShape-Adaptive DCT for Denoising and Image Reconstruction
The shape-adaptive DCT (SA-DCT) can be computed on a support of arbitrary shape, but retains a computational complexity comparable to that of the usual separable block DCT. Despite the near-optimal decorrelation and energy compaction properties, application of the SA-DCT has been rather limited, targeted nearly exclusively to video compression. It has been recently proposed by the authors to em...
متن کاملReduced-Complexity Shape-Adaptive DCT for Region-based Image Coding
We propose a computationally-efficient variant of the shapeadaptive discrete cosine transform (SA-DCT) currently considered for MPEG-4. Although the SA-DCT complexity is acceptable for 8 8 blocks, it is very high when complete regions are processed at once. To reduce the SA-DCT complexity, we replace its 1-D DCT with a quasi-DCT algorithm and we assure that the quasi-DCT basis functions are ver...
متن کاملShape adaptive integer transform for coding arbitrarily shaped objects in H.264/AVC
The use of shape-adaptive transforms is a popular approach for coding arbitrarily shaped objects in image/video coding due to their adaptability at object edges and low complexity. In this respect shape adaptive DCT (SA-DCT) and shape adaptive DWT (SA-DWT) have been proposed in previous literature. The Integer Transform (IT), a derivative of the 4x4 DCT, has been adopted in the latest H.264/AVC...
متن کاملShape-adaptive DCT and Its Application in Region-based Image Coding
To get better and flexible performance, region-based image coding has been studied widely in the last few years. In region-based image coding, the whole image can be divided into two parts: region-of-interest (ROI) and background area. ROI is coded in low compression ratio, while background area is coded in high compression ratio. In this paper, shape-adaptive DCT (SA-DCT) for coding arbitraril...
